Hi!

Can you run other framebuffer apps (say mplayer in framebuffer mode, or a 
framebuffer console)?

You need to set up some modes in your /etc/fb.modes file, the above HOWTO also 
tells about that, and how to convert your X-Windows modes.

Then try setting a different mode (say 1024x768, 32bit) using the 'fbset' 
program, and see what DirectFB says then...
