You can use vesafb. The most recent 2.6 kernel may have partial support for this chipset. And Dave Airlie, the DRI maintainer, has a git tree where the main goal is to add non-VBE based mode setting support. You may want to help with the development by trying his patches. His git tree can be found here: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/airlied/intelfb-2.6 Or you can try the latest mm tree, linux-2.6.16-mm1 which has the intelfb updates included.
