Can you elabourate a little? Does the 'recovery' option simply boot into a text mode rather than starting X? Is that what caused the crash problems you were having? What about the acpi/apic issue? Did you have an IRQ routing problem? Is it solved? (does the 'wait for vsync' option work now?).
