I'm trying to install DirectFB in a virtual machine running Ubuntu 7.04,
which is being run through a Windows XP box.

After following the install directions in the README (./configure, make,
make install), I don't have a working installation. When I run dfbinfo
in the tools directory, I get the following output:

(*) DirectFB/Core: Single Application Core. (2007-05-31 17:46)
(!) Direct/Util: opening '/dev/fb0' and '/dev/fb/0' fialed
--> No such file or directory
(!) DirectFB/FBDev: Error opening framebuffer device!
(!) DirectFB/FBDev: Use 'fbdev' option or set FRAMEBUFFER environment
variable.
(!) DirectFB/Core: Could not initialize 'system' core!
    --> Initiallization error!
(#) DirectFBError [DirectFBCreate() failed]: Initialization error!

I apt-got fbset, and fbset -i returns
open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory

And it's true: there are no /dev/fb* devices to be found.

Is it probable that the virtual machine just doesn't give me access to
the computer's display? If so, is there a good workaround/a more correct
way to do this?

Thanks.
