Ok, I did some more looking and in the dirvish.conf man page, now see
the reference to "vault:branch" for the Runall directive:

Runall:
        c5root:back2a 04:00
        c5root:db2a 04:00
        c5root:db2b 04:00

I thought I had tried this already. If I had, something else must have
been set wrong as well. I have merged my back2a server back into the
branch vault and it works well now:

# dirvish-runall
02:57:58 dirvish --vault c5root:back2a --image-time "04:00"
02:57:59 dirvish --vault c5root:db2a --image-time "04:00"
02:57:59 dirvish --vault c5root:db2b --image-time "04:00"
02:58:00 done
