That doesn't depend on the amount of data, but on the amount of files...
To exaggerate: if you have one 30GB file, then the file list is very
short :-)  If you have 30 billion files of 1 byte each, then it takes
very long.

Check the files inside the image directory, there's log.tmp for
example; that should show what rsync is doing at that moment.

If you see rsync is running (and using CPU time?) then you should simply
have patience.
