Thanks for the write-up !

For what its worth, I actually don't have a problem.  The way I choose
to use Dirvish was vunerable to deleting the most recent backup. In my
case, this was not something mission critical to me, just a few files
that were being backed up in addition to my digital photos.  Trust me,
my expire rules on my photos are much more carefully done and the weekly
snapshot has an "expire-never" attribute.

In any case,  I fixed what was bothering me and posted how I did it.
People can use that or not as they like.   As you are suggesting, its
really not a fundamental limitation of Dirvish.  I've tried lots of
other backup packages and none of them do what Dirvish does - or at
least not very well.
