I believe rsync always does binary diffs, but the diffs are only use to
lower network bandwidth, a full copy of each version is store on disk.
This allows the data to be easily retrieved without special tools,
dirvish and rsync are not needed.

A major selling point for dirvish is storing data in an easily
accessible filesystem. The best way to use encryption for dirvish's
data storage is to use an encrypted filesystem such as LUKS, dm-crypt,
or TrueCrypt. I have a backup script which mounts a LUKS encrypted
filesystem, runs dirvish-expire and dirvish-runall, followed by
unmounting LUKS. The LUKS code is only a couple of lines for mount and
unmount and should be simple to maintain as a wrapper around dirvish. I
can provide this code or add it to the Wiki if anyone is interested.
