Try setting the graphical-display rates to lower values.  In your
~/.gnuradio/config.conf file:

[wxgui]
style=gl
fft_rate=5
waterfall_rate=5
scope_rate=5
number_rate=5
const_rate=5
const_size=1024

The defaults for those are usually 30 FPS, which your laptop may not be
able to keep up with.
