Point is, how do you *know* there's been no transmission? Where you in an
RF-tight room and switched off all your bluetooth devices, smart phones,
wireless door bells, wireless thermometers, RC car controls, wireless door
openers, remote controlled power outlet switches, wireless keyboards & mice,
wireless headphones... just to name the 2.4GHz ISM-band devices that pop
into my head right now.
There's not only WiFi in that band, really.

You can see while recording it. RF meter which I have also indicates the
radio sound is really unique. 

Another product, AirMagnet 2.4 GHz spectrum analyzer shows the same things.

 

Waterfall Pattern also dfferent. Many people not sure about 2.4 GHz.

2.4GHz is, for almost everywhere of the world, an unlicensed band, and
there's practically no real limits on how the signals transmitted in there
look like.
