... but I run Mac OS X 10.1.5 on my PowerMac 7600 (604e/132 MHz) and one throbbing default button eats about 20 % CPU.



I wouldn't expect different static widgets to chew different amounts of CPU, however. Mapping a pixmap is mapping a pixmap, regardless how crazy the pixels are painted.
