I'm not sure what you mean by doc-centred to be honest - unless you mean
reducing the application choice to a kind of 'open with' context menu when
you right-click on a file (which works OK on Windows admittedly).

No not quiet. On windows a menu asks you which application you want to
use. Thats not doc centered.

In a file browser or finder windows you see filenames. I would like to
see the file contents instead. and manipulate change or transform them
where they are without even a clue which application is running.

things i hate about my linux pc:

1. it takes more than a second to boot up
2. keeps asking about filenames and directories
3. does not remember what i was working on yesterday
4. does not remember all the changes i have ever made
5.cannot figure out necessary settings by itself
