does your package add that to (e.g.) /etc/profile...
This is how I have it setup! The doinst.sh script adds the necessary lines in /etc/profile. Either way, I source GNUstep.sh manually as well.

It definitely does! It's just a standard Slackware install, and it pretty has the same packages installed as when I created the GNUstep packages.
I think there might be something wrong with the computer! I tried building the packages again and keep getting getting an error when configuring -base. It pretty much can't find libffi, even when I tell it where it is using the --with-ffi-* options.
