GNUstep GUI is not X-windows, so it doesn't use widgets (or subwindows).
The closest equivalent concept is probably the 'control', which would
generally be a subclass of NSView ... which would be drawn in an area
within another NSView. The hierarchy of NSViews within an NSWindow
is similar to that of subwindows within an X window.
However, you can also have NSCells in an NSView ... they might also be
viewed as lightwight equivalents of widgets.
