Certainly ... to the best of my knowledge this is exactly the same
mechanism in gustep-base as in the Apple Foundation.

This feature has always been present in base.
At present the handler is set via a macro in the released versions of
base (though it's a function in MacOS-X).
In subversion trunk I changed that.
