David,

You may want to check in Local/Libraries.   There was a bug some time ago that 
caused GormCore to be installed there.   An old version of GormCore which is 
binary incompatible could cause the symptoms you're seeing.

for the sake of testing, I updated all core to SVN head and Gorm too, 
installed and opened gorm both "Open" and "New" show and do work
This on FreeBSD 7 on x86
