Tim, All, Found the PGP vs Preferences patch over on the Debian patch tracker: http://patch-tracker.debian.org/package/gnumail/1.2.0~pre3+snap20071004-4
No more crash on opening preferences and PGP bundle appears to be installed, have not tried to send an encrypted email.
