Thanks a lot Liam for your reply. I just searched a bit more, and found 
PureDarwin. I tend to believe a combo made of PureDarwin + GNUstep would have 
all or most of what I'm looking for, wouldn't it? But, sadly, 
PureDarwin seems to be quite abandoned...
