Thanks for the reply! I tried Windowmaker, awesome, openbox..
It seems like Etoile guys started working on a window manager for Gnustep which would address this problem among things. A problem many seem to have (or maybe had). Don't remember the name, Az-something. Anyone know the status of this project?
