did you search for GNUstep.sh and is it actually there? The "sourcing"
of the file itself shouldn't give you any errors, but afterwards make
should work. The script sets a couple of env. variable that are
convenient and necessary for GNUstep-make to work.
Also, please note that it depends on your shell:
bash, sh, zsh and similars:
. /path/to/GNUstep.sh (with space after .)
csh, tcsh and similars:
source /path/to/GNUstep.csh
