It’s not. You’re making the same mistake that I see in 99% of the ads
for jobs that I see: it’s a list of the technologies in use, but at
no point is there a description of what is actually being *done* with
them!
This is not a mission statement:
Using tanks of liquid oxygen and hydrogen as fuel, we’re building
vehicles that are capable of launching humans into the vacuum of
space and allow them to travel between nearby celestial bodies.
This is a mission statement:
By the end of the decade, we will send a man to the Moon and return
him safely to Earth.
The second statement gives the *reason* the efforts of the first
statement are necessary. GNUstep lacks any coherent goal, and so you
don’t inspire many people to join up. You don’t get to plan how the
contributions come together. You don’t get to tout any victories.
I’m not even looking for a moon shot, just a vision to set everyone’s
eyes on an achievable goal. I’ve already made my suggestions: create
a list of *quality* Mac apps that GNUstep supports as ports, and
creating frameworks that Mac/iOS developers can use so that GNUstep is
put on their radar.
You’ve built a nice rocket. Nobody is questioning that. What we’re
questioning is whether or not it serves a purpose greater than sitting
on the launch pad.
