No it isn’t.  Apple has no problems breaking legacy code and this has been a 
warning on Apple platforms with a warning that it may break in the future for a 
decade.

There is no reason to make code ugly with macros to support a version of OS X 
that has been out of support for years and at this point has so many known and 
unpatched security vulnerabilities that using it in any situation where it may 
come into contact with untrusted data would be a terrible idea.
