Yes, you are quite right. I am most curious how they (ICANN) are going to
solve this. They may learn from DotMOO. My guess: some people/companies
may have a first grab before others... For the record: I do not say I like
this, I don't.

So am I. There is no solution that satisfies everyone. First come first
serve is not very fair either. I am sure scripts are already being written
right now and server ordered to run them on for the land run expected
shortly after Xmas. Will everyone have the same resources?
