Further, if you look at the page, you are looking
at an RSP page much like those found here. This one
just happens to be prolific. My guess is that Staples
is moving into new territory and wishes to make a splash.
No big whoop.
Anyone with web background understands that 12 months will
arrive soon enough at which time you can look forward to a
$35-40 payment, which, in the yearlong scope of things, isn't
the end of the world. Now if you're an ISP with 50,000 domains...
You'll probably try some <G>
....and in 300 days (giving you 65 days for phone-haggling your names
free) you'll move to OpenSRS. It will be VERY interesting
to see how it shakes out. Could be a real pig for Staples/Register and a boon for
OpenSRS
if people approach it strategically.
Ooops, did I say that?
PPppssssssss.....nahhh, you know, I was uh....
<blink, blink>
"nevermind"

David,
I don't normally say this about offers from big corporations, but perhaps
you are being a bit too 'suspicious'. It is a fairly standard type of
business offer - a loss-leader.
There is nothing in the small-print that I have read that says you can't
transfer names - so how can they possibly 'go after you legally'?
It seems to me that there is nothing to lose from this offer, for web-savvy
individuals like people on the list. You get 1 year's registration,
virtually free of charge, without any limitations. If somebody can find me a
better offer, please send me the URL privately :-)
It just goes to show what other people on this list have been saying for
ages. If your business is purely based on selling domain names, then you are
doomed to be swallowed up by the loss-making big boys like Register.com.
Find a niche market, or die!
