Oh yes, we had a strange one a couple of weeks ago.

Customer and someone else both had same name.pv.ca
No one had name.ca

Customer tried elsewhere to register the name.ca, came back unavailable -
correct
Customer tried with us - came out as available - wrong,
So her order came in to us as an advanced new domain reg - wrong again
CIRA, of course, rejected it b/c it was reserved - correct

I then try name.ca myself and get "available for pre-registration" - wrong
again
I continue the supposed pre-reg, and when I get to the part where
it pulls up the previous (UBC) info, "Domain does not exist" - correct

In the few days I'm trying to sort out what is going on, of course, the
customer has a chance to second-guess herself and change her mind about
getting it after all. Lucky enough, though, a week later, she decides to go
ahead and keep the prov.ca with the hopes of ugrading later since it looks
like the other person with the prov. variant has long gone. This time
everything reported properly and it went off smoothly.

Like someone else said, I have also been very candid with my customers about
the many difficulties with the .ca's. I'd have lost many sales otherwise b/c
without explanation we'd have looked like idiots.
