The provided clients are perl-based, so you'll need hardware suitable for
running perl scripts at an acceptable clip (perl was designed for
flexibility, not speed :-).  You could do it with a 486 running Linux,
though I'd much rather turn such a machine into a router.

For software, you'll need a perl interpreter and some modules from
www.cpan.org.  Although there are perl implementations for Windows and Mac
OS, you'll probably want to use a UNIX/Linux system unless you've already
figured out how to build perl modules on other platforms.
