The username and password aren't actually the same from our POV. ie:

user-facing:

u: john
p: doe
d: foo.com

opensrs-facing:

u: john.foo.com
p: doe
d: foo.com

This gets around the silly "that username is already taken, why don't you
try 'john_2000abcd' instead..." message.

We're currently working up the requirements for the next version however
and it does make some sense to revisit this specific and see if we can't
come up with a more useable implementation.

Agreed - a big part of our release features for the next 6 months.

The Registration Credit Unit was conceived using the naively flawed and
certainly non-reality based assumption that by creating a digital good
called an RCU, we could sell them to our RSPs and book the revenue
immediately. Needless to say, I wasn't promoted to CFO as a result of this
decision ;).

The next release of the server actually abandons the concept completely -
we've converted wholly to "account balances". Hey, if it's good enough for
every banking institution in the world, it should be good enough for
us...;)
