I would like to thank all who addressed me off list
and in the list their thoughts.
Posting on this list HAS solved the problem (or so I think)
Therefore for the numerous persons who have an
identical problem with UK2.net, I am posting the solution herebelow. It is
tricky but feasable.
I do NOT agree that we
should not talk on this list of other Registrars as knowing what others are
doing helps us not to make the same mistakes and helps us answer and help our
customers.
Thank you again to all who took the time to answer
and associate themselves with my problem
MOVE FROM UK2.NET
There are various reasons to
move/modify a domain.
- You find another ISP has a
service we do not
offer.
- You have sold your domain
name and the new
owner wants to transfer. We can offer the new owner to continue hosting
the domain, since you have paid for the remainder of the period
anyway.
- You have your own DNS server
and
want the records to point there. In this case you would still
require us to hold the name, otherwise you would be charged 80+vat per 2
year period from Nominet.
If there is something you are
unhappy about, please let us know and we will see if we can rectify
the problem at once.
The following options are
available:
|
DNS Management The easy option |
We can make whatever change you need in the
DNS records on our nameservers, including the MX record
for mail exchange or add more subdomains.
We can also change the
DNS servers to your own or another ISP's nameservers, so you still benefit
from our low registration costs.

Domain Transfer
/ Change Provider The hard option |
With our incredibly low deal we told you that
if you move the domain within the first 2 free years, you would be charged
19+vat (22.33). If you have had the domain for longer than 2 years, you
will not be charged anything. We make this charge to avoid administration
so we can keep our prices as low as possible.

No other ISP will tell you how to move your domain
away from them, we only do this because we hope you will realize that we
offer the best deal.

SELLING A DOMAIN NAME
Sometimes companies
or private individuals agree to sell a domain name from one party to
another.
Some of the reasons could be that one party is not using the
name and the other party offered to pay the registration fee and perhaps a
premium if the name is catchy and has value as a generic term that is easy to
remember. Another reason can also be if a dispute arises and the parties agree a
price instead of starting expensive court battles that could drag on for years.
Remember that you do not loose any rights to a domain name just because you do
not use it.
Selling a US domain (.com .net .org)
US
domains are more difficult because they require payment of new registration fee
and more documents to be filled out. First look up your domain and find
out if it is registered with Network Solutions or with CORE. Registrations
before 18th Sep 1999 are all NetSol domains. After Sep 18th we registered all
new domains with CORE which allowed us to sell to lower prices.
Some
people decide to keep the owner name the same, since it will require a payment
of $70 for NetSol domains and also payment for CORE domains.
However
companies often insist that the owner name has to match their name to give them
complete control and want to pay the fee even long before it has to be
renewed.
- Network
Solution Domain Name Change - CORE - Domain name transfer soon
available
After you have sold the domain and payment has been settled.
Login and change the password and owner details on UK2.NET and then give the new
owner the instructions to login and fully control the domain.
You can
tell them that you have already paid for our services and on average has at
least a year left before more payments are due. Then it is really up to them to
arrange transfer away from us or buy more services. You should tell them about
our small release fee of 19 pounds. Remember that it will always cheaper for
them to keep the domain here and use our services then other
ISPs.

CORE - Internet council of
Registrars / ICANN registrar |
| Step 1 |
We will change nameservers
straight away. When you complete the transfer procedure here, an automatic
encrypted message will be sent to CORE asking for the nameservers to be
changed to the ones you specified. It normally takes 4-8 hours
before you can see the changes and you can ask your new host to configure
their servers at once. |
| Step 2 |
To protect your domain name we
will require a fax on your letterhead with your
signature. |
| Step 3 |
We will then change your
COCO-handle to the handle you specify below. You can ask your new host for
their COCO-handle and use theirs instead. Entering the wrong information
here will involve serious delays, so do not play around or enter something
you might think is right, since you might not be able to retrieve the
domain easily if this advice is ignored. Ask your new host to help you
fill out this form. We will normally change the COCO-handle within 7-14
days, but it is not guaranteed. |
| Step 4 |
Contact your new ICANN or CORE
registrar and ask them to initiate a transfer in to them. They are likely
to charge you a substantial fee and will involve additional paperwork.
Please note that ICANN rules state that you cannot move domains registered
less than 60 days ago. |
