I wrote many times before that the zone files are not authoritative for
domain name availability checks. Try with some of your domains - just remove
both nameservers and it will disappear from the zone file. Also there
are a lot of examples where *there are* nameservers in the registry
database but there isn't a record in the zone files. Some days later
they appear back. I think this happens when the domain names are
transferred. But anyway the zone files are unusable to compare old
with new ones and wait for some to expire. In my recent experience
only TEST387532blabla.com domains as well some stupid names expire.
Well there are exceptions - I registered that way "founded.org".
Also I remember you did some stats on how much domains are "dropped"
and noticed that some days the number reaches 50K. Well after you check
for availability the number of really dropped domain names is the same
as the other days. Just the number of removed domains from the zone files
is higher.
So the zone files is OK to be used for the purpose verio.com uses them -
to find out the newly registered domains and to spam the owners
which personally I don't need. So I stopped spending time with the zone
files a month ago...
And again - a domain name is in the registry but not in the zone file if:
Reason 1: nameservers are removed, that is clear.
Reason 2: unknown (when there are nameservers in the registry records
but there is no records in the zone file). It will be good if that reason
is cleared, too...

Doytchin
