It really depends on what IP address you're using for the nameserver. The root registry only allows a one to one matchup of IPs to hostnames. Try using a whois client and querying whois.crsnic.net with the IP, like... $ whois -h whois.crsnic.net 207.136.10.145 Server Name: NS1.TUCOWS.COM IP Address: 207.136.100.145 Registrar: TUCOWS.COM, INC. Whois Server: whois.opensrs.net Referral URL: www.opensrs.org That will tell you if you have a "unique attribute" (which is likely the error you're getting, but I can't tell because you haven't provided it...)
