Bonjour,

A twist of irony and some humour sure takes out the tension of not getting
our .CAs through... beeing from Montreal I had my laughs this morning too :)

We might laugh at it but customers aren't in any mood to laugh! I can't
think how other resellers are explaining to customers that have already
placed orders that they are still receving an email from CIRA saying they
should register. It is already hard to explain why we are not directly
accredited by CIRA. Fortunately in our case we are admin contact (email and
phone) for all our customers.

The .CA domain has been plagued with conflict of interest issues, plain
ignorance, and in some cases simple laziness. Why we had to FAX
authorizations when Adobe Acrobat was there is still a mistery to me. Why
Internic.CA went online when it is clearly a reserved word also is. Oh, they
were "1st accredited". When did they read all the documentation you got when
sending the "expression of interest" ?

All this can be verified by a determined search on GlobeTechnology.com
("canadian domain", "domains") and on the newsgroup can.domain (deja.com has
a good archive). CIRA's meeting minutes are not to miss, either
(http://www.cira.ca/en/proces.html) .

But the single most astonishing fact is that Colin Campbell is director of
their board!
http://www.cira.ca/en/ca.html

"Colin Campbell- Director

Colin Campbell is Senior Vice President, Internet Services of Look
Communications Inc. In his role as senior Internet services representative,
Mr. Campbell is responsible for leading the Internet team and guiding
Internet product development throughout the entire organization.

Mr. Campbell is also a principal investor and founding director of
Hostopia.com, a wholesale Internet services company. He currently sits on
the boards of Look Communications Inc., Tucows.com, and Hostopia.com. "

Where the hell was he when they planned the architecture ? Why didn't they
use OpenXRS ? It would not have been the first time conflict of interest
would be present. I would have put up with that too, if at least we had
something usable now.

For now we're told to just "wait and see". Meanwhile, business reputations
and domain names will be lost and someone with a trademark or fed.
incorporation will be able register "CIRAsucks.Ca" and "AssezACEI.Ca" (or
even better, .COM!) in record time... before november 1st ...

Cheers from Montreal,
