1. I completed a pre-registration for a webnames.ca customer via
webnames.ca -- it went through fine.

2. I received a note from OpenSRS saying "We will resume remitting
pre-registrations once we are confident that they can handle the load."

3. The next pre-registration I tried at webnames.ca didn't work about 5
minutes after receiving the email in mentioned #2

"Great, everyone can't process -- atleast this goes for everyone" I thought.

4. About 2 hours later, I am able to pre-register at webnames.ca without any
problems eventhough OpenSRS has stopped remitting pre-registrations.

This gives webnames.ca an unfair advantage because they can continue with
pre-registrations, and causes OpenSRS, and me, the RSP, to look dumb.

Why can they remit pre-registrations, and we can't? I know that OpenSRS is
doing us a favor by making sure the systems are stable -- but there is one
significant problem with this...

We look silly that we're not able to do with the other Certified CIRA
registrars are able to do -- it makes people second guess whether or not
we're actually capable.

"Is OpenSRS just as capable and functional" as webnames.ca? Apparently not.

In this case, it looks like OpenSRS takes the blame on behalf of CIRA.

Consider this:

If webnames.ca can't do pre-registrations, it is because CIRA is down.
Period.

If OpenSRS can't do pre-registrations, it is either because CIRA is down, OR
because OpenSRS has refused to re-attempt more pre-registrations.

If CIRA is bogged down, it should disable access to ALL Registrars. Instead,
it hopes that OpenSRS stops submitting, and then it seems that it is able to
handle the load again from other registrars.

While it's true that pre-registrations don't have to be done until November
1st, the registrars that get them done quickly come out shining.

At this point, as an OpenSRS RSP, I don't feel that I have come out shining.
:)
