Ross, Though I think it is a neat idea to push corporate customers on the concept of having a "MLD" version of their existing .COM, I really don't think it's necessary for them unless they already have local presence in first place. For example, If you're Adobe, you probably already have adobe.co.jp in Japan, and Japanese users already know the word "Adobe" and how it's written in that language, so it would make sense for them to get "a-do-bi" .com. But if you don't already have a presence, and Japanese users don't already use a version of your company name in that language, it wouldn't make much sense.
