If you want to see the classic example of web run rampant, try looking at
www.theos.com, which is a little used page by a guy named Theo who started
openbsd. He was a few months ahead of THEOS software company in registering
that domain, who had a prior long standing registered trademark in many
countries on "Theos", including Canada. I believe the earlier registration
wouldn't have gone through today because of ICANN rules on existing
trademarks. No doubt, the THEOS trademark holders didn't have the guts to
go after this guy, especially after he appealed to disgruntled hackers
everywhere through the slashdot community(a viable alternative to
non-existent ICANN at the time). In the heat of the battle, the THEOS
software company computers and their lawyers computers were successfully
hacked by self appointed vendetta mongers -- what would you expect? So, in
this case of battling operating systems, a solid open source server-os
OpenBSD won out over a solid proprietary server os called THEOS for its own
domain name. Moral of the story -- be vigilant and quick to adopt new
technologies or someone with an equal claim will get there before you.

I'm wondering if I register a trademark in Canada, meanwhile somebody else
in the states has the same trademark. If we come to a domain dispute between
us, will the states trademark rule out the Canadian trademark?

form of "SOMETHING.COM"? Was it successful to you? Mind to share how it was
done or some experience with me?
