Excuse me if this is an unfair question, but why do the live and test
systems need to go down so often for maintenance? If we're talking about
hardware maintenance - aren't you using any kind of server clustering or
other redundancy that would allow you to take one system offline at a time
and remain operational? If we're talking about software, switching over to
a new source directory, or to a new database source should be possible in a
matter of seconds.
