I take it, then, you are assuming that either the name servers were not 
responding or that there was some other type of network problem.  I did 
trace routes from Mae East, Mae West and did a Visual Trace Route (Dulles, 
VA) which were < 100ms.  The router was passing packets fine and there was 
no hint of a DoS attack or anything else out of the ordinary.  Otherwise, I 
agree that we need to have at least one name server which is external to 
our network.

Good thought.  Although, most of our associates do use external name 
service, which is how we found out there was a problem.
