Hello,
I was thinking about the situation with the domain hijacking that
happened to one of the OpenSRS resellers, and was curious as to what
historical documentation is available to assert that one actually had a
right to the domain name that was taken.
Is OpenSRS (or ICANN, NSI or other registrars for that matter)
maintaining an audit trail of all domains that were ever in their
system? Is that data being stored even if the domain gets transferred
to another registrar? What kinds of changes are kept track of (clearly
the ownership/admin contact information is the most important to keep
records of), and which are discarded (probably nameserver changes
aren't essential)? Does this audit trail differ by TLD?
Sincerely,
George Kirikos
