An additional suggestion...

I said earlier that a way around charging $10 holding fee for
each ticket, whilst still protecting itself from defaulters
was for OpenSRS to only charge $10 for the first ticket (of
any given domain).

Another way of covering themselves (kind of obvious perhaps),
is simply to charge slightly more for the tickets as a sort
of insurance levy (non-refundable of course).

Before someone says, "this will increase the price too much",
it doesn't have to.

If the average number of tickets sold for every domain is 5
tickets, and EVERY single domain (not ticket) is succesful,
AND EVERY single RSP defaulted on EVERY order, then that would
mean Tucows/OpenSRS only needed to charge an extra $2 per
ticket to cover their cost.

Now $2 *is* too much extra - but clearly, not every domain will
succeed, and not every RSP will default on payment. I'm no
actuary, but assuming an 80% success rate for domains (I suspect
it will be less - there are over 100 other registrars), and a
20% default rate for RSP's (and that's a lot!), you could cover
the cost of defaulters entirely by charging an extra 20 to 30
cents per ticket. In fact, given the sheer volume of sales
you make, you could probably absorb most of that as well.

BTW, my maths could be totally wrong - so don't laugh at me
too much if it is :)

Anyway... that's just another suggestion. I don't really
fancy the idea of a price rise, but if its the only way to
avoid the $10 up front fee for every ticket, then I'd go
along with it.
