problem when trying to add nameservers for a given domain

Hello,

   I've found out with the next problem:

   When I try to add a nameserver for a given domain name, I get a page 
with the following error
message:

  Unable to add nameserver: Command failed: unable to verify existence of 
nameserver ns1.whatever.com

since *there is* a nameserver running at that ns1.whatever.com (not the 
real name), I don't understand
what's wrong.

   Could you please throw some light about what's going on?
