Awaiting registry approval

Yesterday I transfered quite a few domains from one RSP to ourselves. We
were the admin contact for all/most of the domains anyway, so we
acknowledged them straight away. 

Under 'Orders in Progress' it shows all the domains as 'Awaiting Registry
Approval'. What is this step for and how long does it usually take?

Just curious....
