The problem here is building in all the necessary logic in the cgi's to
figure out what options should appear on a screen depending on the types of
domains in the profile. I'm no programmer, but I can only imagine what the
developers over here would say (lots of swearing in Russion, most likely) if
I asked them about this.

What I settled on were error messages that at least explained that the
change (though the buttons seemed to allow for it) did not work for some of
the domains.

The billing issues seems a genuine bug...I'll look into that.

I'll also review with the team to make sure that I havn't forgotten some key
detail about mass changes to profiles including .ca domains. I'll also look
into the requirements for actually enabling mass changes in .ca; I agree
that the data structure is similar enough....

Thanks,

Ken

Subject: Batch updates on .CA domains

Hello,

We have a particular profile which contains .COM and .CA domain names. When
going to manage these domains, if it's a .COM, at then end of the form there
is an option to apply the changes to:

Also Apply these changes to:
Billing Contact
Organization Contact
Technical Contact
All Domains (XXX)

XXX being the number of domains (.CA and .COM) in that profile. When
managing
a .CA, this option is not there (why ?).

I noticed that when managing a .COM and wanting to replicate those changes
to
all domains, I get the following errors/success messages (depending on the
type of info I am updating):

- Organization information change:
xxxxxxxxxx.ca : Failed to update the contact in the registry [400]

- Administrative contact information change:
xxxxxxxxxx.ca : Failed to update the contact in the registry [400]

- Billing contact information change:
  xxxxxxxxxx.ca : Contact modification successful

- Technical contact information change:
xxxxxxxxxx.ca : Failed to update the contact in the registry [400]

The first one, organization change, doesn't make sense for .CA , since its
data structure is not even close to .COM. Org info for .ca is the name of
the
organization, its type, and if it's CIRA member. This can't be mass updated,
in fact I just had confirmation that to change a .CA org name OpenSRS
manually
creates a new profile, moves the domain to it, and charges 1 year renewal
for
that.

The second and fourth ones should work, at least from a .CA management
form,
and trigger email confirmation request to appropite admins. Is this
something
planned/never going to happen ?

The third one seems rather unlogical, since there is *NO BILLING CONTACT*
for
.CA domains...

Regarding mass DNS changes, I think this was discussed before, can someone
remind me of the thread ?

Any and all information/comments about these issues would be appreciated.
