Problems? How's this?...:

We had one of their Matrix Dedicated Servers, after continual downtimes on
their shared virtual servers (good money after bad, hmm....)

A Month after it was installed, we get two invoices; one for the server, the
second for an overuse of bandwidth (which is 10Gb per month). Funny I
thought, how could we be using that much, we haven't got any sites running
on there yet.. I call there tech support, and am told basically 'well thats
what your bandwidth monitor states, mate'. Indeed, on one day it appears we
used 12.5Gb!

Fishy, I thought. Calling support again, I was told that we'd have to pay,
60 an hour no less, for them to look into it, although if it was there
fault there'd be no charge. Bless 'em. Well we've got to know either way I
figured, so told them to go do. After wating a day for them to call, I call
them to chase, only to be told 'there's been a hack on the server', the
pretty nasty PoisonBox-Sadmind worm no less which attacks unpatched
Solaris/IIS servers, oh and 'had we remembered to add the security patches
in june, which *would* have prevented this hack?'. Which we had indeed, on
the day of its release.

Ah, says I, so who's accountable?; 'Well, it's awfully bad luck, but the
bandwidth has been used on your account so I'm afraid you are.' was the
reply. Ouch 450 down the swanny...(plus the 60 we paid for this bad news.)

Then I did some investigating of my own, and found that we could view log
files on the server from dates previous to when we had the machine. And
guess what? It was actually a Month before we had the machine that the
hacker had been doing his work!!

So, Fast(buck)hosts had in fact supplied us with a Windows 2000 server
complete with complimentary Sadmind worm. ..Oops.

I'm still waiting for them to tell me what they are going to do about
it.....
