We just got hit with something similar from Register.com
1. We submitted transfer request to OpenSRS
2. Admin contact approved transfer request with OpenSRS
3. Customer got the famous register.com email, which says "Click here to
renew with register.com" or down below it says "Click here to approve the
domain transfer"
The email in #3 above was received (and dated) Mon Aug 6, 11:14 am Eastern
In the email it states "If you do not authorize the transfer by August 06,
2001 5:00 PM EST, the transfer will not be
completed."
However, when you click the link to the webpage to approve the transfer, it
says:
"We did not receive confirmation of your domain name transfer within the 3
day authorization period."
Now, this is the message we were receiving Mon Aug 6, 12noon Eastern!!
We called support @ Register.com and explained everything. "Look at your
watch, it is before 5pm eastern, why are we getting this message" we asked.
"Yeah, that's strange. Hold on" was the response from the Register.com rep.
After spending almost 45 minutes on the phone, multiple hold times, they
finally said they were opening up a trouble-ticket on the issue, and we had
to get the transfer request manually approved.
Now, due to technical difficulties experienced today, how many hundreds or
thousands of domain owners will just end up renewing with Register.com out
of frustration of failed attempts of trying to get away from Register.com ?
How can someone determine if this is intentional?
