I would like to add a general comment. There are so many domain names
out now, everyone can just grab several of his/her liking. There is
no need for an additional ".name" thing, if it doesn't guarantee
absolute transparency and uniform naming conventions.
My idea would be that there exist a domain name space with NO suffix
and only for *personal* names, basically a huge directory service.
And if you look for "Richard.Smith" the browser will go to this
directory after it detects that it doesn't contain a valid suffix and
check there. Sure, it finds a whole lot of them, so it displays a
list of all of them with relevant details to distinguish between each
other (subject of privacy concerns) and one chooses from it. If it
carries out a strict naming convention, so that you always know how a
name would be spelled in this system, f.i.
Richard Smith III -> Richard.Smith.3
Richard S.Smith -> Richard.S.Smith
it might prove quite interesting. Something like a strictly personal
Realnames thing. ICANN could adopt such a system to be made available
by a joint effort of all accredited registrars for free or a very
small fee.
