In a case where a domain holder wants to transfer their domain away from
a registrar whose whois service is broken, how is OpenSRS able to gather
the admin POC for owner verification?
In particular, I'm looking at stargateinc.com, whose whois server gives
no data at all, domainzoo.com, whose whois server hostname as
reported by whois.crsnic.net is corrupt, doregi.com, whose whois server
times out when queried, and namescout.com, who does not require its
registrants to provide any contact information at all (check the whois
record for the domain hicksengineering.com for an example).
All of these appear to provide whois data via their web site except for
doregi.com. Doesn't ICANN insist that registrars also provide a whois
server on port 43, providing (among other things) the admin POC email
address and an expiry date?
If a registrar's whois server doesn't provide this data, does OpenSRS
have some other method for gathering this information, or will transfers
from brain-dead registrars necessarily fail?
