The US is the only superpower, and thus it leads the world relatively
unchallenged in it's policies of oppression and neo-colonialism. The attack
on the WTCenter and the Pentagon are therefore "collateral damage" resulting
from US foreign policy, and the same degree of sympathy and resignation must
be offered to the US administration and people as *they* did when:
(1) The Chinese embassy in Belgrade was mistakenly bombed by the US
(2) The Serbian civilisation was wiped out, while trying to capture their
leader for war crimes
(3) When an innocent sugar factory was mistakenly bombed in Nairobi by the
US in retaliation for terrorist attacks by a still unidentified group on US
embassies in Nairobi and Mombassa
(4) When innocent civilians were accidently obliterated from existence in
Afghanistan due to cruise missile strikes against Bin Laden in retaliation
for (3)
(5) When babies are born in Iraq with horrendous congenital abnormalities
due to the illegal US use of depleted uranium-tipped shells in the Gulf War,
and when as a result of sanctions on Iraq designed to hurt Saddam Hussein,
the real victims are the countless thousands of Iraqis who do not even have
soap and running water.
All this brushed-off as "collateral damage" by the Pentagon, and thus we
really cannot see the attack on the WTC and Pentagon as anything different
than "collateral damage". It is the price that a brutal oppressor pays for
living the way he does; occasionally he'll get a bruised nose.
To paraphrase America's own words in relation to Saddam Hussein and US
attrocities in the Gulf War - this was an attack not on the innocent
civilians, but on the ruling system that is oppressive and harsh, and seeks
to impose it's will on other sovereign states by force.
You mention religious groups, but any number of people could have carried
out this attack, including:
(1) Japanese groups in revenge for Hiroshima and Nagasaki (where 200,000
people died, in comparision with the 50,000 people who may have been at work
in the WTC)
(2) Chinese groups who fear a total devastation of their civilisation,
culture, heritage and lifestyle if their rulers continue to be subservient
to the West and seek membership of the WTO and bondage to the US military
strength in the Pacific and Sea of China.
(3) Serbian groups in revenge for the destruction of Serbia by NATO
(4) American Indian groups in revenge for white man coming and taking over
their land
(5) Anti-globalisation and anti-capitalist groups
(5) Vietnamese, Koreans, Russians, Colombians...
The list is almost endless, of the people who hate America, capitalism, the
New World Order and any of the filth and evils that the Western civilisation
has created (pornography, alcoholism, drugs, violence etc.) What is perhaps
shocking is that someone has sought to do something about it, accepting that
they will lay their lives down in the process.
However, realistically, Islamic groups in the Middle East are unlikely to
have the capability to launch such an attack, as they are well-occupied
dealing with the fires burning in their own lands. For example, Afghanistan
has little ability to sponsor such a technically demanding and sophisticated
attack on foreign soil.
I agree that we need to look beyond the media and political whitewash of the
incident, and look for the real causes, and find some real solutions.
Unfortunately, I doubt that many people can put forward any credible answers
regarding the core cause and the comprehensive solutions of this incident.
If you can, I would be very interested to hear them.
