Having started all this I would like to point out that I have a huge amount
of regard for Tucows/OpenSRS. I have used the domain registration API from
Feb 2000 to learn about the web and to get me into all the fun I am having
now. I have a small (:-) ) business that is hopefully going to get bigger
and have benefited incredibly from help from the people on this list and
people from OpenSRS.
I find the recent changes in the promotional rebate disappointing but not
enough to move me away from Tucows. I flirted with enom a short while ago,
set up the code - even did a few registrations through a site, but even
though their price was substantially lower I ended up closing my site to new
registrations and only leaving open the manage interface - I couldn't get
the same level of support or responsiveness to issues or enhancement
suggestions as I can through OpenSRS and this mailing list.
So - yes - mine was a gripe and I believe a very justified one - but no - I
am not planning (yet) on moving from OpenSRS.
However OpenSRS should just remember that there are a lot of small resellers
out there and too many quick and poorly communicated announcements like this
from marketing will surely turn a lot of these away.
cheers
