In my opinion, Afilias should postpone the launch of .info until they
straighten out the sunrise mess. I encourage those who share my views
to email Afilias.
The domain selection process was meant to give people a fair chance to
register the most sought after domains. Now, it appears that most of
these high profile domains were fraudulently registered during the
sunrise phase. It's not too late to delay the launch, and resolve the
problems, so that people do have a fair chance to register these
domains. I believe it would be in everyone's best interest if they did
this.
Another reason to delay the .info launch, as well as the .biz launch, is
the horrible and tragic events that unfolded on Tuesday. This is not
business as usual. The stock market is still closed, the mail is slow,
the airlines are just starting to fly, advertising schedules are not
normal, the operations of many companies have been affected, and much of
the world is still in shock. I hope I don't sound shallow, greedy, or
uncompassionate by saying that this is not a good climate to launch a
new product. And the climate could get worse in these last few days of
pre-registration. This isn't over. There are a lot of important
decisions that will be made in the next week. I don't see why these new
TLDs should be launched during what could be the beginning of World War
III. My company has been making plans for the new TLDs for a year. Now
is the time when my company needs me the most, and I find myself much
too distracted trying to comprehend the horror of these events, and the
profound changes the entire world is, and will be, going through as a
result.
Does anyone have an e-mail address of an appropriate person at Afilias
to share my views with?
Also, please don't post political comments to this thread. This post
was not meant to stir up debate on whether this is the beginning of
World War III. I'm only trying to explain why I think launch should be
delayed, so keep the thread related to that topic.
