That sounds promising....Of course I am excited by the prospect of moving
more certs... as the product manager i love to get smiles from the CFO...so
now that you know my bias here's the info:
Certs:
The certificates themselves are identical. Browser recognition is the same
(99%) and the level of encryption is the same (128-bit).
The main Benefits of Tucows Certificates are:
1) Our commitment and our partners commitment to never market around you any
products and services to your customers.
2) Ease of payment management.
3) Our ongoing commitment to making the resellers life easier. We are
committed to making continuous improvements to the web certificate product.
These improvements are to be based, in a large part, on the suggestions of
our resellers.
Paperwork:
There is no more paperwork.
If you are an OpenSRS reseller you can just click-through the agreement on
certs.tucows.com. You have to enter your username and password to accept the
agreement. The next time you refresh your Reseller Web Interface you will
see the Web Certificate functionality.
Gotcha's:
However, there are some differences in the process of getting the
certificate, that initially can result in some frustration if you are not
aware of them. I want to make you aware of a few of them (not to discourage
you of course) but to make the changeover process that much easier.
Therefore, keep in mind:
1) Renewal is always easier (with Tucows certificates as well). You will
have to fax the articles of incorporation or other proof of identity... if
there have been no changes then this step is not required upon renewal.
2) If you use the same contact for all contacts Entrust will require third
party verification of the contact's employment. Don't use the same contact
for all contacts if you can avoid it.
3) Installing the certificate requires the extra step of installing the
cross-certificate (required to get full historical browser recognition -- as
time passes this will eventually no longer be necessary).
If you have any other issues....you can feel free to give me a call. We can
even set you up a appointment where we can sit with you the first time you
go through the process so as to avoid any other gotchas.
Let me know how it goes.
Regards
Darryl Green
