Proof of Concept - Proving that Price is a Huge Factor

It appears that one of the things that all of the Proof-of-Concept
testing is showing is that price or bottom-line cost to the
consumer is a huge factor in the success or failure of a TLD.
The U.S. Department of Commerce price regulation of .COM at
$6 per name per year, appears to have had a significant impact
on a consumer's view of what a domain name should cost. The tide
also appears to be turning, speculators can now see that there will
be many TLDs and therefore money is not going to be tossed at
every TLD that comes along. Who knows, at some point the price
may have to go to zero or consumers may have to be paid to use
a TLD, similar to the way t-shirts and mugs are given away in
order to promote a brand. The ad revenue from the various sites
involved in the Registrar/Registry operations may be enough to
fund the TLD back-office operations.
